Siepi is crafted from nearly equal parts Merlot and Sangiovese, a blend inspired by both local tradition and a forward-looking vision. This innovative combination was born after the devastating frost of 1985, which reshaped the Chianti landscape and encouraged the planting of new, resilient vines. The vines themselves are a testament to careful selection, with Sangiovese massal selections dating from 1997 and 2011, and Merlot from 1986 and 1987. A mix of Guyot and palmette training systems further enhances the vineyard’s adaptability to changing climates.

 

In the cellar, Merlot and Sangiovese are vinified and matured separately—Merlot in 225-liter barriques, Sangiovese in 500-liter tonneaux—before being harmoniously blended after 18 months.
